VUL is a scientific academic library with a status of state significance. The VUL collections have been accumulated ever since its foundation in 1570. Its holdings contain over 5 million items, among them unique collections of old and rare books, manuscripts and graphic prints. All VUL Cultural heritage is stored in Central library, in the Centre of Science and Cultural Heritage.

Documents of specific value from special collections shall be read only in specialized reading rooms.
